The Procurement Chronicles

An ode to the multi-function copy machine

Yes, yes, I know, the second post in a row paying homage. But I’m in that mood where I feel a lot of gratitude for the people and things that make my life easier.

Yesterday, people, today, a thing.

The glorious, handsome, useful, well-performing multi-functional copy machine.

It’s not about the printing.

It’s not about the copying.

Not even about the faxing.

As a procurement person, dealing daily with the rigmarole of getting contracts signed…

It’s ALL about the scan and email capability.

Oh. Yeah.

It’s been determined that a scanned signature is just as good as pen and ink, so BAM baybee, life improved rapidly for the long suffering contracts folks.

No longer must I send out and wait for return via Fed Ex. No longer must I wear the tread off my very stylish and comfortable shoes chasing down executives in other far flung buildings (ok, my building is far flung, they are at headquarters, but I’m on a roll so go with me). No longer wait, wait, wait for a sales weasel to drive over with a signed copy.

Nope! Sign, scan, attach, done!

During the throes of fiscal madness, I was so happy that this year I didn’t have aching legs and feet at the end of the day from literally chasing down autographs. Nope, I ended up with only a slight strain to my mousing hand. Nothing that a nice glass of red wine and a weekend didn’t cure.

And all because of the glory that is the new shiny machine purring away happily in the copy room.

I may go hug the procurement person that bought it…
